Fertilization and crop protection in rice production have poisoned the majority of groundwater in Sri Lanka.
Only 30 percent of the population have access to clean drinking water while the rest has to drink poisoned groundwater. Thus, bad kidney diseases with many deaths are widespread, especially among poor peasant families in the countryside.
This is where the PINA aid organization comes in with water filtering units for clean drinking water.
Our movie shows the opening of a water filtering unit in the north of the island that’s supported by us. It continuously provides healthy water for 2,000 people.
